Made with only a few ingredients and ready in no time, this soft vanilla, rum-flavoured cake dotted with apple chunks surely will be your new favourite cake!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>INGREDIENTS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2 large eggs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2 peeled and chopped apples (I used gala variety)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bd c. 110g unsalted butter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2 teaspoons vanilla essence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1 c. 120g all-purpose flour<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2 tablespoons rum, optional<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1 teaspoon baking powder<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00bd c. 100g sugar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1.5 tablespoons sugar (for sprinkling over cake)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a pinch of salt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>How to make Classic French Apple Cake<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 1: Prepare the oven. Preheat it to 180 degrees C. Grease an 18cm cake pan and dust with flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 2: In a bowl, place the flour, baking powder, salt. Mix well and set aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 3: Add the butter to the bowl along with the sugar and vanilla. Mix using a beater until creamy. Then, add the eggs, a piece at a time, beating every after each addition until creamy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 4: Next, add the rum and flour mix. Beat well until blended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 5: Fold in the chopped apples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 6: Into the prepared pan, spoon the mixture and smooth out the top. Sprinkle over 2 tbsp sugar. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre of the cake comes out clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 7: When done, remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool fully before taking it out of the pan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Step 8: Slice and serve.
