By discovering these little tips, you can have your own plant and enjoy this fruit at home. Today we are going to learn how to germinate it.

What you will need:

From an avocado pit

damp kitchen towel

Plastic bag with zip lock

Glass container

recycled expanded polystyrene

Water

Stage by stage

1. Take your avocado pit and clean it thoroughly so that there is no trace of avocado pulp left. This will prevent it from rotting in contact with moisture.

2. Wrap the core in the wet towel, making sure it is completely covered. It is important that the soil is moist so that your holes can germinate. Humidity and warmth are the most favorable environment for this phenomenon.

3. Place the core in the bag and seal it tightly.

4. Place the bag containing your seeds under a stove or other warm, dark place to promote germination.

5. Leave it for 2-3 weeks, remembering to moisten the wipe every time it dries.

6. When you see that your avocado seed has sprouted and the roots are long, it is a good time to remove it from the bag.

7. Cut the Styrofoam to the size of your chosen glass diameter, also cut a center circle smaller than its core. This will hold our core, preventing it from falling into the water.

8. Fill your glass with water

9. Place the polystyrene and insert the core with its roots inside and place it in a bright place (on the edge of a window, for example)

10.Change the water once a week.

11. Switch to a pot with soil (or in the garden) in spring

12. All that’s left to do is wait until you can taste the delicious fruits!

Tips for growing in pots

– The size of the bottle.

You will need to start with a 5 litre pot and increase to 30 litres. Repotting will give your plant strength and allow its roots to grow freely. If you don’t want to repot too much, you can go from 5 litres to 60 litres.

– The substrate

The avocado tree likes acidic soils , with a pH between 5 and 7. A suitable mix is peat, worms and coconut fiber in equal parts, adding a little perlite to promote good drainage.

– Irrigation

Keep the soil moist, taking extra care during the summer when it will need more watering. Drainage is essential, avocados do not like waterlogged soil. Insert your finger into the soil to check the humidity of the substrate.

– The making of the carving

When your plant reaches its first year, it is time to make its first cut. Prune the plant to encourage horizontal growth, the right time is when it reaches 60cm.

Although it may seem impossible, growing it is simple.
