{"id":18023,"date":"2024-09-23T21:39:12","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T18:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.light-recipes.top\/?p=18023"},"modified":"2024-09-23T21:39:12","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T18:39:12","slug":"weve-found-a-way-to-combat-the-high-cost-of-pool-chemicals-and-keep-our-pool-clean-and-clear-naturally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.light-recipes.top\/?p=18023","title":{"rendered":"We&#8217;ve found a way to combat the high cost of pool chemicals and keep our pool clean and clear naturally"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s how we turned things around by using a natural bog filter.<br>Materials:<br>1- Large container filled with rocks and pebbles (we used a cheap trash can)<br>2- Riparian pond plants (e.g. Lysimachia nummularia, Japanese taro, and yellow lily)<br>3- Pond pump (that pumps enough gallons per hour to cycle the pool once every hour or two)<br>4- PVC fittings for a jet and drain at the bottom of the filter<br>5- Copper parts (optional but helpful)<br>How It Works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Setup:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The pond pump draws water through a flexible pipe into the bottom of the trash can.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The water flows up through the layers of rocks, trapping debris and harboring beneficial bacteria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filtered water exits through the spout at the top.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filtration:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rocks trap debris and help filter the water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beneficial bacteria consume nutrients and decaying leaf debris, preventing algae growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Riparian plants consume nutrients that algae would use to grow.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Maintenance:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collect floating debris and vacuum settled debris regularly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once a season, turn off the pump and open the drain at the bottom.
