Don’t Throw Your Old Towels Away: There Are 4 Ingenious Ways to Reuse Them

By Vitia

When towels or bath towels become rough and worn, there is no need to throw them away. You can always reuse them. In fact, your old towels can be recycled and used for other purposes. Instead of making the mistake of throwing them away, find out how to recycle an old bath towel. If due to improper laundry care, your bath towels have become rough and less effective, don’t throw them away. Consider recycling them with these DIY tips.

How to recycle an old bath towel?

Stiff, faded bath towels that you no longer use can be recycled in a variety of ways.

Make a bath mat out of a towel.

First wash the towels that you are going to use to make your mat and dry them. Then grab a non-slip pad that will help you make your carpet. It is a kind of mesh canvas that we usually put under the carpet to prevent it from slipping.

Then, cut slightly wide strips from each napkin. Cut each strip into 5 or 6 cm pieces, insert them into the racks of the grid mat and tie them together. The thickness of the mat depends on how many racks you are going to fill. The more knots you make, the thicker and softer the carpet will be.

Mop with an old bath towel

Cut a piece of bath towel about 27 cm long and 12 cm wide, or better yet, take the dimensions of your mop. Then cut two small pieces 7 cm long and 12 cm wide. Pin them to each side of the large piece that will serve as a mop and sew them together so that only one pocket remains for the base of the broom.

Another trick is to cut a bath towel into an H-shape. Place the base of the broom in the middle and join the two ends of the top with the two ends of the bottom. Secure them with a sewing button.

Braided rug from a bath towel.

You can make a colorful oval rug to decorate any room, simply by using old bath towels in different colors. You will need 3 towels. Fold each napkin in half and cut strips about 3cm wide. Once you’ve cut it all out, form sets made up of 3 strips of different colors each.

Take a group and sew the 3 strips together, but only at the top that you hold between your fingers. Then braid the strips together. Do the same with each set, and when you’re done, sew all of the resulting braids together, so that you have a very long braid. Don’t forget to sew the end to secure it. Then, you roll the braid onto a spool and, using a large needle and thread, sew it all together.
