Kill cockroaches overnight without using pesticides!
Cockroaches are one of the most persistent and unpleasant pests in any home. They hide in dark corners, reproduce quickly, and can contaminate food. Although there are pesticides on the market, many contain chemicals that can be dangerous to children, pets, or people with sensitivities.
Fortunately, there are at-home solutions that can help you combat them safely and naturally. One of the most effective is a homemade trap based on common ingredients such as honey, banana peels, sugar, and detergent. This mixture is highly attractive to cockroaches, which fall into the trap and cannot get out.
In addition, you can follow the procedure in the following video on the Top DIY channel:
Ingredients needed
- 1 to 2 banana peels (best if ripe)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- A handful of sugar
- 1 tablespoon liquid detergent (can be kitchen detergent)
Step-by-step preparation
- Prepare the peels
Place the banana peels in a shallow bowl, such as a deep dish or jar lid. If they’re large, you can cut them into chunks. - Add the honey and sugar
Pour the honey over the shells so that it is well distributed. Then, sprinkle the sugar on top. This combination acts as bait: its sweet, fermented smell will quickly attract cockroaches. - Add the detergent
Pour the detergent around or over the mixture. Its function is to break the surface tension of the liquid and trap cockroaches, preventing them from escaping. - Place the traps
Distribute these traps in places where you’ve seen cockroach activity: behind the refrigerator, under the sink, near drains, behind furniture, or in dark corners of the kitchen or bathroom.
Why does it work?
- Honey and sugar act as a natural attractant thanks to their sweet and intense smell.
- The fermenting banana peel enhances the aroma and simulates organic food.
- The detergent traps cockroaches and suffocates them by adhering to their body, preventing their movement and breathing.
Tips to improve effectiveness
- Check and replace traps every 2-3 days, as they may lose their attractive smell or dry out.
- Keep it clean: avoid food scraps in the kitchen, clean up crumbs and dry spills so as not to give them other food sources.
- Seal cracks and gaps where they can enter, especially in walls, under doors, or near pipes.
- Wear gloves when handling traps if there is contact with debris, to avoid strong odors or sticky residue on your hands.
How often to use this method?
You can use it intensively for a week and then maintain one or two traps for prevention. If the problem persists, repeat the procedure once a week until the infestation is eliminated.
A safe home method
This remedy is ideal for those who want to avoid chemicals in the home and opt for natural alternatives. Not only is it inexpensive, but also easy to prepare and very effective if used consistently and in combination with cleaning habits.
