The betrayal of my husband and his mother cost us our house money.

By Vitia

“Mom, return our money for the apartment,” for the first time Alejandro sided with his wife and not with his mother.

A few days earlier, Camila had taken a bank statement in her hands with trembling fingers. She couldn’t believe her eyes: the savings they had saved for five years to buy their own home were gone.

He reread the document over and over again, hoping it was a system error, but there it was, crystal clear: “Transfer to a natural person. Beneficiary: Zulema Ramírez”.

The mother-in-law.

The Lost Sacrifice

Camila felt the ground open up under her feet. For five years, she and Alejandro had saved every penny, depriving themselves of everything, dreaming of the key to their first home. And now, everything was gone.

She immediately called her husband.
– Alejandro, come home urgently.
“What’s going on?” Are you crying?
“Just come. Now.

Twenty minutes later, Alexander came in pale and agitated. Camila handed him the paper in silence and saw how his face went from confusion to horror.

“I can explain,” he murmured, looking down.
“Explain? You gave our money to your mother! All our savings?
– She asked for a loan, she said it was urgent… He promised to return it in a week.

Camila let out a bitter laugh.
— In a week? Three million? Whence?

The confrontation with the mother-in-law

As if fate had planned it, at that moment the doorbell rang. Zulema Ramírez appeared impeccable at the door, with her expensive coat and freshly painted nails.

“I was passing by and decided to visit them,” he said with a smile.

Camila confronted her bluntly:
“Zulema, where is our money?

“Money?” I don’t understand what you’re talking about, my dear.
“The three million you took out of our account.”
“Ah, that… Alejandro lent them to me. It was temporary. I’ll give them back.

Camila clenched her fists.
“When?”
“Don’t talk to me like that,” replied the mother-in-law coldly. “I deal with these matters with my son, not with you.

The limit of patience

Camilla had endured for years her mother-in-law’s hurtful comments, her attempts at control and her disdain. But this time it was different. This time he had crossed the line.

“Listen to me well, Mrs. Zulema,” he said firmly. You have three days to pay us back or I’ll go to the police.

The woman laughed.
“The police?” Against your husband’s own mother?

“Yes, I will. This is a fraud.

She then took a piece of paper from her bag.
“Here is Alejandro’s signature. He lent it to me voluntarily. Everything is legal.

Camila looked at him in disbelief.
“Did you know about this and did you hide it from me?”
Alejandro lowered his head without being able to answer.

The truth uncovered

The complaints continued, until Camila, tired, faced him with tears of fury.
– You didn’t choose me, you chose your mother!

Alexander was silent too long, until at last he looked up.
– Mom, give us the money back. Camila is right. These are our savings, our future.

The mother-in-law turned pale.
“Do you choose her over me?”
— I choose my family. And my family is my wife.

A new beginning

The argument ended with Zulema slamming the door, leaving the promise that “I would never forgive him.” But that same night, Alejandro and Camila received the notification from the bank: the three million had been returned.

A week later, they received the keys to their new apartment, away from the shadow of their mother-in-law. There they started again, determined to build their lives by their own rules.

Over time, Zulema reappeared, with a softer tone, trying to regain contact. And although the wounds did not disappear, Alejandro and Camila learned to set limits and prioritize the most important thing: their own family.

What do we learn from this story?

That loving parents does not mean allowing them to control our lives. The family that is chosen, the one that is formed with the couple, must be a priority. Setting limits is not betraying, it is protecting what is built together. Trust, respect, and unity are stronger than manipulation and control.
