The ingredient that instantly eliminates burns in pots and pans

By Vitia

Burnt pots and pans are a headache for many, but there’s a homemade trick that promises to remove the most stubborn stains without having to throw away your cookware.

In this article, we explain the procedure to make your pots look like new with ingredients that you probably already have at home.

How to clean burns in pots and pans

To make your pots and pans look like new, you’ll need:

Materials Needed

  • Water: enough to cover the burnt part of the pot or pan.
  • White vinegar: about a quarter cup (adjust according to the size of the pot).
  • Salt: two tablespoons on edge.
  • Soap: The one you use regularly to wash dishes.
  • Special fiber or sponge: for scrubbing without scratching the surface.

Procedure

  1. Fill the pot with water: Pour enough water into the pot to cover the burned area. If necessary, add a little more water to cover the higher areas.
  2. Add white vinegar: Add a quarter cup of white vinegar to the water. The amount can be adjusted depending on the size of the pot or pan.
  3. Add salt: Add two tablespoons of salt. This will help loosen the burn.
  4. Boil the mixture: Bring the pot to a boil. As the water begins to boil, you will notice that little by little the burnt residue comes off. Let it boil for a few minutes.
  5. Cool the pot: Once you’ve turned off the heat, let the pot cool completely to avoid burns during washing.
  6. Remove the water: When the mixture has cooled, throw away the water. You will notice that much of the burning has already come off (between 60 and 70%).
  7. Scrub with soap: To remove any remaining residue, apply soap and use a soft fiber or regular sponge. If the burn is less, you will only need the regular sponge. Rub until all the burnt is gone.
  8. End result: When scrubbing, you’ll notice that the burnt has been removed by more than 90%, leaving your pot or pan almost as good as new.

This trick is simple, effective, and uses common ingredients. If it has worked for you, feel free to share your experience.

Councils

Here are 4 additional tips to improve results when removing burns in pots and pans:

1. Use baking soda for tough stains

If after boiling the vinegar and salt mixture there are still traces of burning, sprinkle baking soda on the stain and rub with a damp sponge. Baking soda is an excellent mild abrasive that helps remove stains without scratching.

2. Let the hot mixture sit

Once you’ve boiled the water, vinegar, and salt mixture, turn off the heat and let it sit in the pot for at least 30 minutes. This will allow the heat and ingredients to work longer, loosening the most stubborn stains.

3. Try lemon for smells

If in addition to burns, the pot has a lingering odor, cut a lemon in half and rub it directly on the burnt stain. The citric acid in lemon not only helps cleanse, but also eliminates unpleasant odors.

4. Don’t use abrasive scouring pads

Avoid using metal fibers or very hard scouring pads, as they can damage the lining of your pots and pans. Always opt for sponges or soft fibers that are safe for your cookware material.
