The Powerful Homemade Repellent That Kills Fleas And Other Pests With Just Three Natural Ingredients
If you notice a single flea in your home, don’t be overconfident: there are probably already dozens – or even hundreds – hiding in corners, carpets or your pets’ beds. Fleas multiply very quickly: a female can lay up to 50 eggs per day and more than a thousand in her lifetime. That’s why acting fast is key to avoiding an infestation.
Instead of resorting to insecticides with harsh chemicals that can affect your health and that of your pets, today we teach you how to prepare a natural, economical and highly effective repellent, using only ingredients that you surely already have in your kitchen.
Natural ingredients with great repellent power
1. Cloves
Cloves are much more than an aromatic spice. It contains eugenol, a natural oil with an intense smell that fleas can’t stand. By grinding the nails, more of this oil is released, making its repellent effect even stronger.
Initial preparation:
Place a tablespoon of ground cloves in a small pot with about 200 ml of water. Bring to a boil for a few minutes so that the water absorbs its properties.
2. Lavender
When the water starts to boil, add a tablespoon of dried lavender flowers or a few drops of lavender essential oil. In addition to its relaxing aroma, lavender is a natural insecticide that repels fleas, mosquitoes and moths. Let it boil for a few more minutes to extract its essential oils.
3. Apple cider vinegar
Once the preparation cools, strain it and add 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. This ingredient enhances the effect of the previous ones and leaves an odor that fleas, ticks and cockroaches do not tolerate.
How to use homemade repellent
- Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.
- If you use it on your pet, dilute it with a little more water to make it softer.
- Avoid applying it near your eyes or nose.
- You can spray it on carpets, floors, pet beds, and corners where fleas tend to hide.
This repellent not only fights fleas, but also ticks, cockroaches, mosquitoes, mites, rats, mice, bed bugs, and centipedes. It is safe, natural and, above all, very effective if applied consistently.
Additional Tips
- Wash your pets’ blankets, pillows, and toys frequently.
- Vacuum carpets and couches regularly to remove eggs and larvae.
- Repeat the application of the repellent every two to three days for the first week.
With this natural preparation, you will protect your family and pets without harming the environment or breathing toxic chemicals.
Important
Although this repellent is natural, consult with your veterinarian before applying it directly to your pet, especially if they have allergies or sensitive skin.
