Pour cement into a plastic bottle and see what most people can’t even imagine!

By Vitia

What seems like a simple trick with plastic bottles ends up becoming a spectacular and decorative piece of gardening. This project shows how, using nine cut bottles and a basin full of cement, a solid tray with nine integrated pots can be created, perfect for decorating a table, a terrace or any corner of the garden.

It’s not just recycling: it’s artisanal design, functionality and creativity combined in one piece.

What is actually built?

The end result is a tray-shaped cement base (made with a basin as a mold) containing nine perfectly formed holes, created by plastic bottles filled with cement.

When it is unmolded, a unique piece remains:

  • A cement tray
  • With nine integrated pots
  • Ready to place soil and plants
  • All in one solid structure

It is ideal for:

  • Garden tables
  • Rustic centerpieces
  • Balconies and terraces
  • Decorative vegetable gardens
  • Outdoor or indoor spaces

Original materials

  • 9 plastic bottles
  • Cement
  • Water
  • 1 basin or large plastic container (will serve as a mold)

Step-by-step preparation

1. Cut the bottles

Cut the 9 bottles in half. The lower parts will be used.

2. Prepare the cement

Mix the cement with water until you get a thick, creamy, and uniform texture.

3. Fill the bottles

Fill each half of the bottle with cement. Tap gently to remove air bubbles.

These filled bottles will be the molds that will form the pots hollows.

4. Prepare the basin

Pour a good amount of cement into the basin, forming the base of the tray.

5. Place the bottles

While the basin cement is still fresh, place the 9 filled bottles side by side, pressing them down slightly.

They will be partially sunk in the cement, forming the spaces of the pots.

6. Let it dry

Let everything sit for 24 to 48 hours without moving it, until the cement is completely hard.

7. Unmold

Turn the basin over and remove it. Then remove the plastic bottles.
A cement tray with nine perfectly formed holes will appear.

The Bottom Line

You get a unique garden decorative piece:
A cement tray with nine built-in pots, where you can place soil, succulents, herbs, flowers or aromatic plants.

It looks perfect:

  • On a garden table
  • On a shelf
  • On a balcony
  • As a natural centerpiece
  • As a decorative planter

It is resistant, heavy, stable and visually very attractive.

Tips to make it look even better

  • Use bottles of the same size so that the gaps are even
  • Gently tap the mold to remove bubbles
  • If you want a finer finish, sand the edges once dry
  • You can paint or seal the cement to protect it from moisture
  • It looks amazing with succulents or small plants

This project proves that with bottles, cement and a little creativity you can create something really beautiful. Not only do you recycle, but you make a designer piece that looks like it was bought in a garden decoration store. A simple idea that ends in a truly spectacular result!
