Events that occurred after the death of Jesus and that not everyone knows

Jesus’ death on the cross was not the end of his story. According to the Gospels and various ancient texts, a series of extraordinary events occurred immediately after his crucifixion, marking one of the most shocking moments in the spiritual history of humanity.

Many of these events are little mentioned, but they reveal the real magnitude of what happened that day.

1. The veil of the temple was torn in two

At the exact moment when Jesus gave up his spirit, something impressive happened in the Temple of Jerusalem:
the veil that separated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom.

This veil symbolized the separation between God and humanity. Only the high priest could pass through it, and only once a year.
When the veil was torn, it was interpreted as a sign that, through Jesus’ sacrifice, access to God was open to all, without intermediaries.

It was not an accident or a simple physical phenomenon: it was a spiritual message.

2. The earth shook and the rocks split

The Gospels narrate that Jesus’ death was accompanied by a strong earthquake.
The rocks were broken and the ground shook in Jerusalem.

In the Hebrew mind, extreme natural phenomena were considered direct signs of divine intervention.
This earthquake was seen as a reaction of creation itself to the death of the Son of God.

Nature responded to what had happened.

3. The tombs were opened and many were resurrected

This is one of the most surprising and least talked about events.

The Gospel of Matthew relates that after Jesus’ death, many tombs were opened and righteous people who had died were resurrected.
After Jesus’ resurrection, these saints entered Jerusalem and were seen by many people.

This fact symbolizes that death had been defeated.
Jesus didn’t just die: He opened the way to eternal life.

4. The Roman centurion recognized Jesus

One of the Roman soldiers overseeing the crucifixion witnessed it all:
the darkness, the earthquake, and the way Jesus died.

Shocked by what he saw, he declared:

“Truly this was the Son of God.”

A pagan, a representative of the Roman Empire, recognized what many religious leaders had denied.

5. A supernatural silence covered the earth

For three hours, from noon to three in the afternoon, the earth was covered in darkness.
It was not a normal eclipse. It happened in the middle of a full moon, when a solar eclipse is impossible.

For many scholars, it was a supernatural manifestation that marked the spiritual weight of that moment.

The world fell silent as the sacrifice was completed.

6. Joseph of Arimathea challenged power

Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the Jewish council, asked Pilate for Jesus’ body for a dignified burial.
This was an act of bravery, as identifying with a death row inmate could cost them their position or even their life.

Without knowing it, he was setting the stage for one of the greatest events in history: the resurrection.

7. The Roman seal and the guarded tomb

The religious authorities feared that the disciples would steal the body.
That is why they asked that the tomb be sealed and guarded by Roman soldiers.

The Roman seal meant that no one could break it without facing the death penalty.
However, neither the seal nor the soldiers could stop what was to come.

8. Heaven and earth were put on hold

Between the death of Jesus and his resurrection, the world experienced one of the most meaningful silences in all of history.

The disciples were hidden.
The authorities believed they had won.
But God’s plan was at its climax.

Three days later, the tomb would be empty.

An event that changed the destiny of humanity

These events were not mere coincidences.
Every sign, every phenomenon, and every reaction showed that Jesus’ death was not just another execution, but an event that altered the spiritual course of the world.

His sacrifice not only closed a stage…
