What are normal blood pressure values?

Normal blood pressure varies depending on a person’s age, gender and health, and can be affected by many different factors such as stress, sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet.
The World Health Organization advises all people to maintain healthy blood pressure levels, especially after the age of 45. The WHO table of normal blood pressure values is the reference to be used to check blood pressure levels.
The force exerted by blood on the walls of blood vessels is known as blood pressure. The unit of measurement of the BP is millimeters of mercury. Systolic pressure (the pressure of the heart when pumping blood) and diastolic pressure (the pressure of the heart when it is at rest) are also usually measured.
Normal blood pressure values according to the WHO
Normal blood pressure among adults is 120 mmHg1 (systolic blood pressure) and 80 mmHg (diastolic blood pressure). When systolic exceeds 140, and diastolic exceeds 90, it is considered hypertension.
The pressure also varies depending on age and gender. The following table lists all the reference values.
