How to clean the whole house with grandma’s yellow soap

You will surely have seen this curious yellow brick, almost transparent, in the supermarket and wondered what it is for. To many of us, yellow soap reminds us of our grandmothers, because it was widely used in their time especially for doing laundry.

This excellent product has now gone out of fashion, replaced by modern cleaning products, but many of us still appreciate its usefulness and effectiveness. Mostly used to wash laundry, yellow soap is actually very useful for cleaning the whole house.

Yellow soap is prepared from coconut oil and can be found in supermarkets, almost always of the “Alga” brand, it costs very little and, as you will see, it is an extremely versatile and useful product in household chores.

Doing laundry with a piece of soap

Moisten the stubborn stain on your clothes with a little water and rub it with a piece of yellow soap to pre-treat it before doing laundry.

Insert a piece of soft soap into the drum and start a normal wash cycle. In addition to being spotless and stain-free, your laundry will also smell delicious.

Liquid laundry detergent

Bring two pieces of soft soap to a boil in half a liter of water in a pot. Once boiling, remove from the stove and let cool. Pour the liquid into a bottle, perhaps adding an essential oil of your choice.

Your laundry detergent is ready. To use it, just pour some into the appropriate drawer of the washing machine, as if it were a normal detergent. Also add a teaspoon of baking soda for even cleaner laundry.

Surface degreaser

Yellow soap is also very useful for cleaning the house and removing grease from surfaces. Follow the same procedure as for liquid detergent, but this time using only a stick of soap.

Let the liquid cool and pour it into a bottle equipped with a spray diffuser and add water. If you want to make the degreaser disinfectant as well, add a few drops of tea tree oil.

Protect plants

Dissolve 20 grams of yellow soap in half a liter of hot water, then spray directly on the plants.

This remedy is very effective in warding off insects and parasites such as mealybugs and red spider mites.
