Learn how to repair a broken zipper of jeans, bags, or jackets in minutes

By Vitia

As useful and practical as they are, so much so that they are considered a real revolution in the clothing industry, zippers have only one flaw: they often break with little and it seems almost impossible to repair them.

This is especially unpleasant if it’s a zipper of a pair of pants, or maybe a recently purchased jacket or bag. In these cases, it is always good to be able to count on an immediate repair trick.

A broken or stuck zipper can be a real torture, but it has various solutions and below we suggest the most effective ones.

1. Cursor that came out of the chain

Use pliers to hold the chain in place, while using a screwdriver to open the space in the slider where the chain should pass. The opening should be small, just enough to fit the teeth of the chain.

Once both parts are inserted, press the slider lightly to join all the elements together and secure them, then move it from top to bottom.

2. Broken puller

Sometimes due to wear and tear, the puller, i.e. that piece of metal that we grab to open the zipper, can break or detach.

Use a screwdriver to lift the part on which the puller is attached, to insert a thin piece of canvas that will replace the puller itself.

3. Locked zipper

A zipper can get stuck for various reasons, but one trick that works in almost all cases is to put some petroleum jelly or lip balm between the zipper teeth.

This should be enough to unlock a stuck zipper.

4. Teeth that have fallen out

You need glue, a cotton swab, and a pair of scissors. Cut the plastic tube of the cotton swab into very small pieces.

Take a fragment, open a cut on one end and place on the part where the tooth is missing.
