Crispy Chickpea Crisps: A Healthy Snack You Can Prepare in Minutes

By Lesia

You got it! Crispy chickpea crisps are a fantastic, healthy snack. Here’s how to make them quickly and easily:

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
  • Spices of your choice (see suggestions below)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Spice Suggestions:

  • Savory:
    • Paprika
    • Garlic powder
    • Onion powder
    • Cumin
    • Chili powder
    • Rosemary
    • Everything Bagel seasoning
  • Sweet:
    • Cinnamon
    • Brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
    • Nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chickpeas:
    • Rinse the chickpeas thoroughly under cold water.
    • Drain them well, and then pat them completely dry with paper towels. The drier they are, the crispier they’ll become.
    • You can also remove the skins of the chickpeas for an even crispier result. This step is optional, but it does make a difference.
  2. Season the Chickpeas:
    • In a bowl, toss the dried chickpeas with the olive oil.
    • Add your chosen spices, salt, and pepper. Toss until the chickpeas are evenly coated.
  3. Bake or Air Fry:
    • Baking:
      • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
      • Spread the chickpeas in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
      • Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Stir them halfway through to ensure even cooking.
    • Air Frying:
      • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
      • Place the seasoned chickpeas in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
      • Air fry for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally, until crispy.
  4. Cool and Enjoy:
    • Let the chickpeas cool slightly before enjoying. They will crisp up further as they cool.

Tips and Variations:

  • Experiment with Spices: Don’t be afraid to try different spice combinations.
  • Add a kick: Sprinkle with cayenne pepper for a spicy version.
  • Lemon-Herb: Add lemon zest and dried herbs like oregano or thyme.
  • Storage: Store leftover chickpea crisps in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a few days. They may lose some of their crispness over time.
