How to permanently eliminate cockroaches with baking soda and sugar

By Vitia

There’s nothing more disgusting than finding cockroaches invading our home, whether in kitchen cupboards, behind the refrigerator, in drawers, in cracks, crevices, drains, etc. They’re a real pest that seek out dark places, which is why they come out at night in search of food and waste. The urgent question is:  how to get rid of cockroaches.

As we all know, these despicable insects are especially active during the hot season. As we mentioned earlier, they’ll hunt for food by any means necessary. Therefore, we must be vigilant about blocking their entrances through holes, pipes, windows, and other access points into the home.

Remember, it’s not just that they’re disgusting to look at; they’re a real health risk. They undoubtedly carry various bacteria and diseases.

Given this, if cockroaches are invading us, we need to take urgent action. Let’s see what we can do to counteract or eliminate this repugnant pest:

How to get rid of cockroaches

1. Traps

A very interesting trap is to place small boxes or containers in places where cockroaches hide. There, we will put aromatic plants that scare them away, as well as home remedies that eliminate them completely.

2. Insecticide

To make the right choice of insecticide , you must first select a product that is not for professional use. And one that is not harmful or toxic to the family, you should look for the most suitable and highly effective one in the supermarket.

3. Store food in sealed containers

This is a very good measure and helps prevent the appearance of cockroaches. We all know that open containers and cans attract cockroaches. Furthermore, if they are already in the dining room, they won’t touch the food and therefore won’t be contaminated.

4. Baits

Baits are also very effective and come in pill, powder, or gel form. It’s recommended to place them in strategic locations, such as near doors, in crevices, drawers, or under appliances.

This is a super effective and very exterminating method.

5. Baking soda and sugar

It is well known that sugar attracts insects, and baking soda also repels these pests. Another suggestion is to use borax combined with sugar; both components are enhanced to exterminate them.

However, let’s focus on the mixture of baking soda and sugar, ingredients we probably already have at home. Mix both ingredients well until a good consistency is formed. After this, we’ll need some small soda or soft drink caps to place the homemade mixture in small portions.

This trap works like this. Sugar attracts these bugs, so when they get close and ingest it, the baking soda affects their stomach, causing them to bloat and eventually die.

6. Sticky traps

In the case of sticky traps, they won’t exterminate the cockroaches on their own, but they will remain firmly attached and ready to receive an insecticide to put an end to them.

Let’s apply these homemade methods and we’ll no longer have to deal with this repugnant pest. Just by trying one or more of these suggestions, we’ll get rid of cockroaches once and for all.

Other recommendations:

Aromatic plants are very helpful in this fight against cockroaches, especially mint, bay leaves, and garlic, which apparently have properties that repel cockroaches.

Another trick that never fails is deep cleaning and proper maintenance of your home, especially in the bathroom and kitchen, where these disgusting insects are most common. Remember to do all this during the warm season, as this is when this pest is most prevalent and the ideal time to put an end to them.
