Mosquitoes used to eat me alive until I tried this
For years, every summer turned into a nightmare: just sitting in the garden or opening a window at night was enough to leave my legs covered in bites. I tried everything: sprays, candles, creams… but nothing seemed to work for long. Until I discovered this natural, homemade, and surprisingly effective remedy.
With ingredients I already had at home, I prepared a simple mixture that not only repels mosquitoes but also leaves a fresh and pleasant scent in the air.
Today I want to share with you the step-by-step instructions for this solution that literally saved me from the daily attack of these insects.
Ingredients you need
- 300 ml warm water
- 1 tablespoon dried peppermint (or a few drops of peppermint essential oil)
- 1 tablespoon dried flowers (such as lavender or chamomile, or a few drops of lavender essential oil)
- 100 ml fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 spray bottle , preferably dark glass to better preserve the oils
How to prepare it step by step
1. Make the base infusion:
Heat the 300 ml of water in a small saucepan until warm (do not boil) . Add the mint and dried flowers. Cover and let it steep for 10-15 minutes to release all their aroma.
2. Strain the liquid:
Using a fine-mesh strainer, remove the herbs . It is important that no solid residue remains to prevent clogging the spray bottle.
3. Add the other ingredients:
Pour the infusion into a clean container and add the 100 ml of fresh lemon juice and the ground cinnamon . Mix well until the cinnamon is completely dissolved.
4. Optional: Enhance the aroma:
If you prefer, you can replace the herbs with a few drops of peppermint or lavender essential oils , or combine them for a more intense aroma
5. Transfer to the spray bottle:
Use a funnel to pour the mixture into the spray bottle. Shake well before each use .
How do I use it?
Spray this mixture on:
- Doors and windows
- Bedding
- Curtains and carpets
- The air in enclosed spaces
- Inside the car or in areas where you sit or sleep
Helpful tips:
- Storage : This mixture is natural, so ideally, use it within two weeks and store it in a cool, dark place
- Test on light-colored fabrics first : Before applying to textiles, test on a small area to avoid staining, especially from the cinnamon.
- Personalize the scent : You can experiment with other ingredients like rosemary, eucalyptus, or orange if you want to vary the fragrance or intensify the repellent effect.
Since I started using this preparation, I haven’t suffered a single bite at home. Not only is it a safer and more natural solution, but it’s also economical, quick to make, and smells lovely.
If mosquitoes used to ruin your nights like they did mine, I encourage you to try this recipe. It might be the change you’ve been waiting for!
