Sleep without your cell phone in bed, look at the sky in the morning, drink wine: recommended by a neurosurgeon

By Vitia

The modern routine, marked by technology, constant stress and isolation, has led people away from some simple customs that, according to experts, can make a big difference in the quality of life.

Russian neurosurgeon Alexander Alekseev, with years of experience in brain health and longevity, has shared three fundamental habits that, if applied daily, can improve our physical and emotional health.

1. Don’t use your cell phone in bed: your brain needs to disconnect

For many people, the cell phone has become an extension of the body. From the moment they wake up until they go to bed, they are exposed to screens, notifications and an inexhaustible flow of information. But, according to Alekseev, taking your phone to bed is one of the worst mistakes you can make if you want to rest and protect your mental health.

The blue light emitted by screens affects the production of melatonin, the sleep hormone, disrupting circadian rhythms and making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. In addition, checking news or social networks before sleeping activates areas of the brain that should be entering a resting state.

Practical tip: Leave your cell phone in another room or, at least, away from the bed. Before bedtime, spend 15 minutes reading a book, writing, or simply meditating in silence.

2. Look at the sky in the morning: the body needs natural light

Another simple habit proposed by the neurosurgeon is to look at the sky during the first minutes of the day. It seems like something unimportant, but it has a profound impact on our nervous system.

By looking up at the sky upon waking, we allow natural light to stimulate the brain, especially the regions responsible for alertness, hormonal balance, and mood. This helps synchronize the biological clock and improves the quality of nighttime sleep.

Practical tip: When you wake up, open the windows and go out to the balcony, the patio or simply look out to receive the sunlight for a few minutes. It’s a simple act that can change your day.

3. Sip a glass of wine with pleasure: moderation and connection

Contrary to recommendations that demonize all types of alcohol, Alekseev suggests that a glass of red wine, enjoyed calmly and in company, can have positive effects on emotional and cardiovascular health.

The key, he says, isn’t in the alcohol itself, but in the way it’s consumed. A glass of wine at the end of the day, while sharing a chat or watching a sunset, acts as a ritual of pause and gratitude.

Practical tip: If you don’t have medical contraindications, allow yourself an occasional glass of wine, with mindfulness, enjoying the moment and the environment.

These three tips, as simple as they are profound, invite you to reconnect with the essentials: real rest, natural light and small shared pleasures. In times where everything is running, stopping can be the true path to a longer and more meaningful life!
