Nail and foot fungus are one of the most common and at the same time most persistent skin problems. They usually appear silently and progressively. At first, you may notice a slight itching between the fingers, flaking or a change in color in the nail, which begins to look yellowish or dull. Over time, if left unchecked, the fungus expands, weakens the nail and can cause constant discomfort.

Many people immediately resort to expensive creams or aggressive treatments, but there are natural home remedies that, used correctly and consistently, help eliminate fungus, regenerate the skin and allow nails to grow back healthy.

1. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most effective natural remedies against fungus. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties directly attack spores and additionally help balance the pH of the skin, creating an environment where fungi cannot survive.

For a daily bath, mix half a cup of apple cider vinegar with half a cup of warm water and soak your feet for 15 to 20 minutes.
In cases of nail fungus, you can also apply vinegar directly to the affected nail with a cotton ball. With consistent use, itching decreases, the skin calms down, and the nail begins to grow better.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the most potent essential oils against fungal infections. It contains compounds that destroy fungal cells and reduce inflammation.

Apply a few drops, preferably diluted in coconut oil, directly to the nail or affected skin. Massage gently to facilitate absorption. With daily consistency, redness and itching usually subside within a few days, weakening the advance of the fungus.

3. Baking Soda

Fungi thrive in moist, acidic environments, and baking soda works by neutralizing those conditions. In addition, it helps absorb moisture and eliminate bad odor.

You can sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes or socks to keep your feet dry. It is also useful to prepare a paste with baking soda and a little water, apply it on the affected area and remove it after a few minutes. This method helps slow down the spread of the fungus.

4. Garlic

Garlic contains allicin, a natural compound with strong antifungal action. Crush a fresh garlic clove and mix it with a little coconut oil. Apply the paste to the affected area and leave on for about 30 minutes before rinsing.

This treatment can be done daily. In more resistant cases, a foot bath can also be prepared with several cloves of garlic crushed in hot water. Over time, the skin begins to calm down and recovery becomes visible.

5. Coconut oil

Coconut oil deeply moisturizes and at the same time fights fungi thanks to its lauric acid content, which damages the membrane of many fungal species.

After washing your feet, dry them thoroughly and apply a thin layer of coconut oil, especially between your toes and around your nails. This creates a protective barrier that helps prevent relapses and keeps the skin healthy.

6. Lemon juice

Lemon contains citric acid and vitamin C, which help slow down the growth of fungi and promote skin regeneration. Apply the juice with a cotton ball to the affected area and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.

In addition to its antifungal effect, lemon helps to lighten stained nails and improves their appearance.

7. Proper foot hygiene

Beyond natural remedies, daily hygiene is essential to eliminate fungi definitively. Wash your feet every day, dry them carefully, especially between your toes, and change your socks frequently.

Wear breathable footwear and keep your shoes clean and dry. Disinfecting them regularly is key to preventing the fungus from reappearing.
