How to make a natural soap without caustic soda, only with vinegar, lemon and alcohol

By Vitia

The production of homemade soap has become increasingly popular due to the growing interest in natural products and its beneficial properties for the skin. However, many recipes call for the use of caustic soda, a chemical compound that can be irritating to the skin and requires some precaution when brewing.

If you want to avoid using caustic soda but still want to enjoy the benefits of homemade soap, we present you with an alternative recipe that uses natural ingredients such as lemon, vinegar and alcohol.

Benefits of DIY soap ingredients:

  • Lemon: Lemon is known for its antibacterial and cleansing properties. Thanks to its high vitamin C content, lemon juice can help to cleanse the skin deeply, eliminating impurities and excess oil.
  • Vinegar: Vinegar is a powerful natural disinfectant and can help balance the pH of the skin. It is effective in removing dead skin cells and moisturizing the skin, leaving it soft and glowing.
  • Alcohol: Alcohol can act as a preservative agent in homemade soap, helping to extend its shelf life and prevent mold and bacteria from forming. In addition, it can contribute to a better soap texture.

DIY soap recipe with vinegar, lemon and alcohol:

Ingredients:

  • 500 ml olive oil (or coconut oil)
  • 200 ml distilled water
  • 100 ml lemon juice
  • 50 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 50 ml of ethyl alcohol
  • Essential oils (optional) to perfume the soap.

Instructions:

  1. Preparation of the ingredients: Gather all the necessary ingredients. Be sure to use a stainless steel or glass bowl and utensils to avoid unwanted chemical reactions.
  2. Oil Melting: Lightly heat the olive oil (or coconut oil) in a pot over low heat until runny. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Mixing Liquid Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the distilled water, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and ethyl alcohol.
  4. Combine the ingredients: Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the pot with the olive oil (or coconut oil), stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  5. Adding essential oils (optional): If you want to scent the soap, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils and mix well.
  6. Pouring and cooling: Pour the mixture into soap molds and allow to cool to room temperature for several hours or until the soap sets completely.
  7. Cutting and storage: Once set, cut the soap to the desired size and allow it to mature for at least two weeks before use. Store the soap in a cool, dry place to extend its shelf life.

This homemade soap with lemon, vinegar, and alcohol is a great alternative for those who wish to avoid using caustic soda. Rich in natural ingredients and beneficial for the skin, this soap will leave you feeling fresh and clean without compromising your health and the well-being of your skin.
